Stump Grinding

Stump grinding uses specialized equipment to reduce the visible stump and upper root flare into wood chips.

What is stump grinding?

Grinding is usually less disruptive than excavating an entire stump and root system. The requested grinding depth should reflect how the area will be used afterward, such as lawn repair, landscaping, or construction.

Large roots commonly remain underground after grinding. The resulting chips may be removed, used as mulch, or mixed with soil to fill the opening, depending on the agreement.

Common reasons for the service

  • Remove an obstacle from a lawn, planting bed, walkway, or work area.
  • Prepare the surface for landscaping after a tree has been removed.
  • Reduce unwanted sprouting when grinding is appropriate for the species and site.

What to expect

  • Confirmation of the stump location, diameter, requested depth, access, and cleanup.
  • Utility-location and site checks before underground material is disturbed.
  • A clear plan for handling wood chips, backfilling the opening, and restoring the surface.
